TEAM SUMMARY

Team 6616 was founded by a math teacher from Western International High School in 2017. The team met and worked on their future project at the Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation. There they developed the details needed for their robot and business team. We named our team, “The Mechanical Pumas.” We travel to different schools to participate in competitions held by FIRST. “FIRST,” meaning “for inspiration and recognition of science and technology,” is a program that inspires interest in the fields of science and technology. To prepare for such competitions we come together to brainstorm, design, program, and build our robot. We have limited time to get everything ready and a total of 6 weeks for our build season in which most of the construction happens. The goals we have held for our team this year is to expand the number of members, be in the top 8, spread awareness about FIRST as a whole and our team included, and win chairman’s award. We also hope to keep the math and science fields interesting to all high schools students for more years to come.

In addition to our work within the high school, our members also support and mentor the Amelia Earhart Middle School robotics team. We help them build their robot for the middle school FIRST Tech Challenge.
